Save Energy Wisely is Present Tense, BOE Advocates the Publics to Participate in Energy Saving Month

How to enjoy summer with comfort and saving energy? Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs (BOE) initiated the event of "Saving Energy Wisely is On with A Guang Energy Saving Fair". It is recommended that the public to participate in energy saving month by adjusting the temperature setting of the air conditioner for one more Celsius degree, cleaning the filter regularly, maintaining the air temperature at 26-28 °C, and turning off the lights not in use.

BOE indicates the topic (Save Energy Wisely is On) of energy saving month this year is expected to advocate people to consume electricity efficiently during the peak hours in summer. To achieve the reduction in power consumption without affecting the quality of life, it is recommended to purchase energy efficient appliances by recognizing energy efficiency label, using energy efficient lamps, adjusting the temperature setting of the air conditioner for one more Celsius degree , cleaning the filter regularly, maintaining the air temperature at 26-28 °C, turning off the lights not in use, applying the timer, etc..

In order to promote the action of energy conservation in daily routine, BOE works with Taipower Company, TTRI and energy saving volunteers to hold "A Guang Energy Saving Market "at Huashan 1914-Creative Park. The market is a grand opening event for 2019 Energy Saving Month encouraging the publics to learn various energy-saving approaches in life through interactive activities. The websites of "Energy Park", "A Guang Energy Saving Map "and "Consumption of Daily Electricity "provide information associated with power conservation and expect to consume power wisely.

In order to encourage people for taking actions on energy saving, BOE assimilates energy saving promotion with local art for the first time this year. The feature film produced with Hank Cheng, the winner of Japan miniature contest presents traditional Taiwanese elements as a miniature background and contrasts the ratio of the miniature model to the character. Innovative shooting techniques express the importance of replacing old appliances. The aggregation of small move would eventually save more power. Changing the world with small movements is the main idea. The short film will be exposed through TV, Internet and other channels to enhance the promotion of summer energy saving.

BOE states that the promotion of energy saving awareness needs continuous efforts. The government has implemented "The New Energy Saving Program" since 2017 including replacing T8/T9 fluorescent tube and remaining the air temperature at 26-28 °C from school and government departments. BOE also provided industries with counseling services and subsidies for setting efficient power equipment.  Besides, in order to beef up the relationship between local government and central government, BOE executed "The Energy-Saving Actions in Service and Residential Sectors by Local Governments "in 2018. It strengthens energy-saving measures for residential and service industries. With the active promotion of the government, the residential sector saved 529 million kWh of power consumption in 2018.

Besides, in order to resume the implementation of power saving, Taipower Company continues to promote the "2019 Energy Saving Reward Activity". The users who register their information on the Taipower activity website will win NTD$ 0.6 power saving bonus per  kWh saved.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs also stressed with the development of the economy and the improvement of the quality of life, the need for consuming electricity will increase. To balance the needs of economic development and people's livelihood, the government will continue to encourage the publics for using energy efficient appliances and promote energy saving and carbon reduction. In addition to taking the lead in implementing energy conservation and carbon reduction, the Ministry of Economic Affairs aims to bring Taiwan as the sustainable development society.
