Bureau of Energy, Ministry of Economic Affairs, R.O.C.

What is the existing energy mix and current Energy Policy in Taiwan?

Taiwan’s energy supply reached 146.6 million KLOE in 2017. In which, crude oil and petroleum products accounted for 48.45%, while coal, natural gas, nuclear, and renewable energy accounted for 30.17%, 15.15%, 4.43%, and 1.81% respectively. Comparing to neighboring countries, our dependency on fossil oil was significantly higher.
Facing the global climate change and GHGs emission, Taiwan’s energy development must considers the objectives of energy, environmental, and economics. Thus, the government announced the "Framework of Sustainable Energy Policy" in 2008 and "New Energy Policy of Taiwan" in 2011 respectively.
