With the increasing intention on economic development, energy security and environmental protection, the focus of traditional international cooperation has been shifted from trade to broader technical cooperation, information sharing and energy security. In order to promote Taiwan’s participation in regional energy issues and to ensure our energy policies in consistent with international trend, Taiwan has actively engaged in APEC energy meetings and activities and proposed various energy initiatives, for example, Initiative of Green Energy Finance. Besides, Taiwan also actively participates in the negotiation on energy service issues under the multilateral framework of WTO.
With regard to bilateral energy cooperation, in order to enhance the development of energy technology, to stabilize energy supply, to promote energy security and to expand energy cooperation, in recent years Taiwan has promoted bilateral energy cooperation to different extents with the US, Australia, Japan, the UK, and Germany, etc.
